Substitutions? for SG?!???! Maybe if I'd gotten E1M5, but even then...
System used: 486DX/2 66Mhz with Hercules Dynamite VLB
Controls used: keyboard + Logitech trackball with keyboard redefined:
a : speed on
e : forward
d : backward
s : left (strafing left, I use trackball only for direction control)
f : right (strafing)
all other keys same
middle mouse button: strafe
right mouse button : forward
Free interpretation: E3M6, Nightmare, done in 10 seconds (currently my record)
Comments: This title was a piece of cake. Maybe having done Lightning I'm
biased, but still, I'd recommend upgrading difficulty to Ultra-Violence,
but I guess that's what Lighning is for...
E3M5 was simple, no casualties.
E3M9 again simple, getting the shotgun and invulnerability is critical.
E2M7 the only level that gave me trouble. Took me about 5 tries to get this
one. Trick is to get shotgun FIRST, then go for beserk/blue key,
otherwise you eat up much time (and might even risk coming close to 4:00)
Basically if you keep the principles I stated in my Lightning exam, this
one's a cakewalk (always use speed, shoot only obstacle monsters, etc).
Of course, I might not have thought so had I done this 1st or 2nd, instead
of 6th (in my exam sequence).
Author info: If there was a minor in DOOM in college, I would easily
qualify. Some people watch TV. I play doom. And occasionally
do theatrical lighting.
