Comments                : I see that it is rather late for this title
(with one month to go until Quake comes (or
might come) out. But better late than never.

Right after id added the 'Nightmare!' skill
(in v1.2, I think) people started to complain
that this skill really is to hard to play.
maybe those forget that it was added BECAUSE
'Ultra Violence' was said to be TOO EASY.

Anyway, I hope that these 4 recordings will
show that the often discussed 'impossibility'
of playing at 'Nightmare!' skill is a
                         prejudice.

Of course, you can't just go and say: 'Ok,
lets make a lmp of, say, e1m5-nm'. This won't do.
You do need at first a clear plan of how
to go through the level and what you must
do, can do, and should better not try to do
                         in this level.
What helps in finding a good way through a level
is to do it in UV, but under par.
Then you can train every critical situation
separately (e.g in UV with -respawn -fast and
the help of cheats). Cheats are particularly
useful in training for multilevel recordings
as it gives you the necessary weapons (IDFA)
at the start of the level.
Then, try it. Over and over again.
                         And again. And ...
And, don't make sudden changes to your plan.
It will surely prove fatal. (There is even a
good example in one my lmp's: watch the 5th
level in ep1-nm (1st episode). It
somehow occurred to me that fighting the
pink demons behind the yellow door can be done
best with the chaingun (instead of with the rocket
                         launcher).

                         Here are some practical tips:

imps: harmless, just step aside if you
                           see a fireball
                         cacodemons: similar but much trickier;
if they attack in groups you better
                           have a BFG ready
pink & invisible demons: usually easy but
not if they attack in groups, just step
back a tiny step when they are going to bite
(so make sure you have nothing behind you)
soldiers & sergeants: it is often said that
it is impossible to avoid their shots; this
is not true. Try it with a soldier: stand
in front of him and when he is about to
shoot at you (just a few gameticks before)
step aside (with strafe left/right) he will
miss you. Same with sergeants but as they
shoot more bullets at a time you have to
make a bigger step. Of course, the timing
is crucial and as there is a random element
in DOOM it will not always work, but it is
                           worth a try.
barons of hell: more or less harmless, just
get out of the way of their shots
flying skulls: do not respawn -> harmless
                         spider: watch ep3-nm, level 8
cyberdemon: dangerous, but not in e2m8

A few words to the free interpretation lmp:

What's so special about it? Well, I do it
without getting any key. Find the way
yourself first and then watch it! It has
                         nothing to do with 'Nightmare!' at all;
I could have done it even in UV and with
'-nomonsters' but I thought NM would be more
                         appropriate.
