Title: Web Browser Rant

========================================

I mentioned previously that web browsers have been getting on my nerves.  They
exist more in support of web companies and web site features than they are in
support of users, their choices, or their security.

I've used Firefox as my primary browser since it was Phoenix.  As the web grew,
browsers expanded to support it.  All of the problems with the web today are
enabled by features of the web browsers.  Running arbitrary code on my computer,
viewing the rendered content to fingerprint me, accessing USB devices (!).

Firefox makes most of these nearly impossible to turn off.  They are almost
always opt-out, and usually you have to find some obscurely named key in
about:config and set it's value to some non-obvious number to disable the
"feature."  That is not a design in support of the user.

Then, every so often, Mozilla adds a UI element to the preferences or actually
stops allowing web sites to run rampant over my system in some small way and I'm
supposed to applaud them for their "protection of my privacy?"  These things
shouldn't have been allowed in the first place.  I'm glad you're now not going
to load "slow trackers".  How about all trackers?  No more auto-playing videos?
Again, why was that allowed in the first place?

How is this "More power to you" or "Taking back the web"?

And as far as user-centricity of the major web browsers are concerned, Firefox
is the *best* one.  :(
