Title:  ROOPHLOCH fail

========================================

I thought I was poised for a great ROOPHLOCH[0] post.  I had a kayaking/camping
trip planned this past weekend off the coast of Maine.  The plan was to paddle
out towards Isle au Haut stopping to camp on islands on the way out and the way
back.  And if conditions were right, circumnavigate Isle au Haut.

I figured that posting to my phlog from a small island off the coast would have
been a pretty cool entry.  I even thought I might have cell access out there and
would be able to post directly to my phlog server without having to wait to get
back to the grid.

Well the first day up there, storms were predicted and the seas were a little
rough.  We decided to spend the night on shore.  Then the hurricane was
threatening to be in the area on Saturday which was the day were to be paddling
back.  So the options were, go as planned and probably get stuck on a barren,
wind beaten island in a tiny backpacking tent for a day of hurricane and come
back late, or stay on shore, do day trips while the weather was good and
reschedule Isle au Haut for later.

We picked plan B.  I'm glad we did.  We paddled out to what would have been the
first island we were going to camp on.  Very thin tree cover and all rocks and
roots.  It would have been a horrible night's stay. :(  I expect the other
islands are pretty similar.

We still plan to make it out to Isle au Haut, maybe next year, but will probably
rethink how we do it.  Maybe not stop on the smaller islands but bee-line to
Isle au Haut which has a campground.  Or maybe try a hammock for sleeping in.

As for ROOPHLOCH, since I wasn't on a cool, remote island, I didn't bother
writing anything until I got home.  I could have written this post from the
campground on shore and sent it to my server once I hit cell service but, I tend
to have the affliction of "perfect is the enemy of good enough" sometimes.  If I
can't do it "right", I'm not going to bother.  Hence there are a lot of
unstarted jobs around me I really should do and would be fine if they were just
"good enough".
