Polarization experiment
Here's a cute experiment from a book called "Are Quanta Real?":

Take two polarizing filters and set them up so their polarizing axes
are perpendicular. Shine a light through. You don't see the light, right?

       light---->  |-    (> eye

Now take another filter and put its axis at 45 degrees on either side of
the pair. Again, you see no light:

            ---->  /|-   (>            or
            ---->  |-/   (>

Now put the third filter in between the first two, again at 45 degrees.
What do you see? (Hint: it's not what you saw before.)

            ---->  |/-   (>
