Not only is "effect" a verb, but "affect" is a (somewhat archaic) noun,
meaning:
       1 (obs) meeling, affection
       2 The conscious subjective aspect of an emotion considered apart
         from bodily changes

Most sources give "exempli gratia" as the source of "e.g.".

Both "e.g." amd "i.e." should be set off from the sentence by commas fore
and aft, e.g., as in this (self-referential) example.

It is my ubderstanding that the ellipsis immediately follows the last word
cited..., and may be followed by appropriate punctuation....
