"effect" can also be a verb meaning "to bring about, to cause"
I heard that "e. g." comes from the Latin "ex gregis" = "from the herd"
Now for the toughies:
How does one correctly punctuate e.g. and i.e. in their common use, and
what s the proper way to punctuate an ellipsis ( the " . . . ")
