Last word??
In an article in the Business & Finance section on  counterfeited
video games, The Washington Post reports:

"Pac-Man was invented by Namco Ltd., a Japanese company that sold
U.S.  rights  to  Midway to manufacture arcade games and to Atari
Inc. for the home version."

there was no reference to the derivation of Pac-Man (sic); howev-
er,  the  previous  references  in  this  newsgroup to a possible
Japanese derivation from "paku-paku" might be  supported  by  the
Post's report of Japanese invention.
