New Rogue Available (important info enclosed)
Well, folks the big moment has finally arrived. Rogue 5.2 is ready for
public distribution. It comes to you in a uuencoded archive file
containing
READ_ME Take a whild guess what THIS file is
extern.h A header file for
mach_dep.c Routines that can be tweaked for the local
system, including scorefile opening, load
checking, ...
distmod.o The rest of the routines in loadable binary
rogue.doc Current documentation

IMPORTANT NOTICE
=======================================================================
If everyone had their own copy of rogue, load limiting and such would
be entirely useless. Since this would result in abuse, problems with
supervisory types, and probably removal of rogue from some systems
(which has even happened here) the following policy will be strictly
adhered to:
ONLY ONE COPY PER SITE
I will not send more than one copy to any given site. Since, however,
this could lead to some naughty person keeping it to him/herself, I
will also tell anyone at the site who requested the copy. From that
point I expect that local pressures can be brought to bear on the
sneaky cad who usurped that site's copy. I will also ask people who
get them NOT to redistribute to friends, etc., to avoid these types of
problems. If you are managing more than one site, when you request
your copy you can also tell me what sites you're managing and I will
not send any to that site. This is pretty hardassed, but the type of
problems we've had here with this sort of thing indicate that effort
should be taken along these lines for everyone's sake.

New features (some of these won't be new depending on the version you
have):
The 'D' command
Tells you what kinds of potions, scrolls, etc., you have
discovered so far this game. Especially useful for saved
games, it allows you to know before you quaff something whether
the only type of potion left (that you know about) is
blindness....
The 'passgo' option
Follow turnings in passages when you use capital letters to move.
This eliminates a real hassle
Treasure rooms
(sometimes referred to as "oh, shit") Rooms full of many
treasures and even more monsters ... if you live they're
wonderful
starvation
There is now a bottom to how long you can go without food.
This eliminates a problem with getting locked with floating
eyes forever.
Score file changed
It now lists the top then scoreers, not scores (uniqued by user
id). To be more precise, it allows one NON-WINNING score per
uid in the file. All wins are posted.
New magic things
but I'll let you find them for yourself
Monster detection enhancement
monster detection no longer clears the screen, etc., but puts
the monsters on the screen, and monters you can't see normally
are put in standout mode (if your terminal has one) for several
turns.
Little usage improvements
too numerous to mention (or remember for that matter)
Bugs fixed
see above comment
Coin slot
rogue now has a coin slot. We charge 25 cents per 30 minutes.
Local rates may vary...
As always, we thank you little people for making us so well known, and
for all the suggestions and bug reports (including, sometimes, the
fixes). For now, I have to get back to school and serious work (our
project has a high muckymucks coming to see the demonstration in 1.5
months. But I won't forget you all, and I'll still play rogue...
Shreldalff the Humble
a.k.a. Ken
P.S. When you determine who at your site will be the lucky recipient,
s/he should tell me how they want the archive copied over. This is so
obvious I thought I'd better say it.
