The term "atari" in Go is called when you make a move which allows you
to take an opponenets piece(s) on your next move. It does not always
mean that your oppenent cannot escape. It is sort of analagous to the
term "check" in chess, modulo the fact that taking an opponenets piece
does not end the game. It can, in fact, sometimes be the stupidest thing
to do.
