Sherlock Holmes trivia
Here are the answers to the Sherlock Holmes trivia I posted
a while back:
(a) The last story was "Shoscombe Old Place" (1927).
(b) The first story was "A Study in Scarlet", originally to be
called "A Tangled Skein".
(c) Nero Wolfe is reputed to be Holmes' illegitimate son.
He keeps a picture of Holmes in his study.
(d) Watson found his wife in "The Sign of Four".
(This story is often mistakenly referred to as
"The Sign of The Four")
(e) Spaulding founded the "Red-Headed League" in the
story of the same name.
(f) The Blue Carbuncle (a diamond) was found in the crop of
a goose, in a story of the same name.
(g) "The Woman" was Irene Adler of course, and she outwitted
Holmes in "A Scandal in Bohemia", hence her title.
(h) Holmes' brother Mycroft attends the Diogenes Club.
(i) The Bruce-Parlington plans described a secret British submarine.
(j) The Five Orange Pips were sent by the Ku Klux Klan to
their victims as a warning of impending doom.
(k) Colonel Moran, the second most dangerous man in London,
was the lackey of the most dangerous man-- Prof. Moriarty.
(l) Holmes kept his tobacco in the toe of a persian slipper.
(m) The real villian of "The Sussex Vampire" was the oldest
son of the suspected "vampire".
(n) Holmes and Moriarty had it out at the Reichenbach Falls.
Nobody got (a), (b), (f), (h), or (m), so I guess I overestimated
the powers of deduction (well, memory) of the Baker Street
Irregulars out there.

for getting 7 out of 14.
A parting shot (I don't remember the answer to this one myself!)
For $25,000 and a trip to London, how many steps were there
from the ground floor leading to Holmes' rooms at 221B Baker Street?
