rogue stuff
About Bill's suggestions for rogue, I'd like to shed some light and
make some comments:
"1) The c command should allow you to name *any* object..."
The "c" command only works for \classes/ of objects, not individual
objects. So you can't call one alexandrite ring one thing and another
something else. I agree this isn't as nice as it could be, but see the
comment on (5) below.
"2) ...the cluster of little dots that follows you around isn't
really necessary..."
The old thing it used to do is not erase the dots, but leave them
behind. I'm not sure if this is what you're suggesting, or whether you
want it not to put the dots down in the first place. If so, you might
even convince me to make it an option, but I think it'd be ugly...
"3) ...the status line [should include] weapon strength, when
known."
What weapon strength? You mean +1,+1 stuff? Anyway, I've just added
the last thing that will fit on the status line (maximum real strength,
like maximum hit points), and nothing more will FIT!
"4) the status line should also include a (semi-)real-time
clock."
See 3. It WOULD be nice, though. Maybe another command: T? Of
course, you can always use "date" from the shell...
"5) A scratch-pad command would be useful"
Yes, it would. But it's a sort of hassle. I have added a command
which tells you which of the potions, scrolls, etc., you have
discovered thus far in the game. This seems to generally suffice.
"6) Traps should affect monsters as well as players."
Well, maybe. Then again, maybe not. The Centaur may be intelligent
enough to know the trap is there and not step on it. And then again,
maybe not. That's a whole new can of worms, and I'm tired...
"7) On the other hand, occasionally the arrow-trap arrows that
HIT you should be magic (i.e. fatal). Fair is fair, after all."
It would be, if not for (6).
"8) [throwing] a potion at a monster...should [have] some
probability of being effective."
Why? Would it decide to drink it? Do Nymphs drink? Would it be
absorbed through the skin? What about Wraiths who have no skin?
Anyway, new rogue by the end of the week!
Ken
