Quitting
I disagree with both cbosg!mark & unc!bch -- quitting IS a decision and
provides an interesting interplay between emotion and intellect. Very
often the situation is that you figure you have at most a 5% chance of
living through a particularly harrowing monster, on the other hand, you
WANT to, so badly you can taste it. So you convince yourself that your
chances are really better than you thought (after all, isn't that the
way it works in "real" adventures? It sure works that way on TV!). So
you persevere and 19 times out of 20 you die in agony over your foolish
decision. Of course, if you quit you never know if one more hit would
have stomped that Umber Hulk and shown you the Amulet that he (she?) was
hiding... There is no bravery without risk and there is no risk without
the 10% "bonus".
