I have used an IBM 3101 for Emacs use and found it very inconvenient,
incoveneient enough to chuck the terminal for another one (first
a VT100 and then an Ann Arbor Ambassador). Whether ITS Emacs is better
about display update than the CMU Unix Emacs, I can't say but I doubt it.
Redisplay on the IBM required a lot of repainting, and the keyboard is
very awkward for Emacs. The ctl key is down on the right next
to the space bar and there is no meta key. At one point the IBM was the
standard terminal here, but as more people starting using screen
editors (including Emacs), they got rid of the IBM's infavor of
VT100 and Ambassadors.
