FTP site information.  If you didn't catch it before, an ftp site
has been established for the Strangeways archives.  The site is
quartz.rutgers.edu (128.6.4.8).

The current contents of the archive are:
       Strangeways issues 1-15
       Discography
       Lyrics (ASCII format)
       Lyrics (WP 5.1 format)
All files are UNIX compressed.  To access the files, download them
to your machine using binary mode and then type "uncompress <filename>".

I finally got the lyrics uploaded to the site.  Special thanks to
Nicole for originally typing in the Smiths lyrics.  Here's the format:
it starts with the Smiths Album and Single discography, Smiths lyrics,
Morrissey Album and Single discography and Morrissey lyrics.   It
really looks sharp in WordPerfect with two columns in 9 pt type, but
not everyone uses a PC (but they should :-) ).  I am missing the
lyrics to a few of the b-sides of Morrissey's later releases.  If
someone has the Japanese singles, I believe the lyrics are in there.
I don't collect the Japanese singles because they are so much more
expensive in the States than the British versions.  Anyway, if
someone has them, please send them to me.

Also, I received a number of requests for lyrics to be mailed to them.
If you don't have ftp access, please send me mail again...I purged
most of my mail last week.  I'll keep the lyrics on line for about
a week.  I have a big 2M of space so I can't keep much on line at
any given time.

Please send any corrections and/or modifications to me.  If enough
people want, I suppose I could mail out the ASCII version of the
lyrics in the next issue of Strangeways.  I think it would be a waste
of space for those who don't want them, though.

Enjoy.

In S15 Michael writes
>I have a question concerning Morrissey's parents. I

>or is it just another rumor.
I thought Moz came from a Roman Catholic family.  In any case he seems
fairly
well estranged from his father (or maybe his father is dead).  Since I'm not
100% sure about this one I'd better be careful how I phrase this ... oh sod
it,
who cares anyway.  Why are there so many ridiculous rumours surrounding Moz?
I've never seen so many incredible questions as there are in this forum.
Albums of Smiths cover versions, reunions, remixes etc. etc.  Sorry, I don't
mean to criticise the people asking the questions but how do these (often
blatently and obviously false) rumours start?

babble writes
>I just read a pretty good interview with Bob [Robert Smith - The Cure] in a
>local music magazine called 'Lime Lizard'
Lime Lizard is one of those `superior' fanzines (Ablaze is another) that
does
get nationwide distribution but typically only in record shops.  It hasn't
quite made the leap, that Jamming did, into newsagents.
>B:'He tends to moan without humour. At least I moan with Humour.
I find this really hard to take.  I guess it's all a matter of opinion but
I
would completely reverse this.  I have never ever laughed at anything Robert
Smith has written (much as I am a `part-time' Cure fan).  He strikes me as a
rather unintelligent, witless person (did anyone else see him on juke box jury
(UK tv show) a few months ago?).  In contrast Moz has often had me tittering!
If Bob and Moz are writing in the same way then I reckon Bob is a very very
poor second!  Furthermore, to up the bile quotient (!), when Joy Division were
around I always thought The Cure were a very poor second to them (in the angst
music stakes) too.
>when he was asked which Smith he would most like to
>kill:Mark E. or Robert? He said'I'd put them both together and shhot them.'
>and I'm thinking 'Why?'.Why didn't Morrissey say 'I wouldn't shoot either
>of them.'?
Because it was a daft question and Moz answered in kind!!!!!!   Fuckin'
`ell
Bob, it may not have been a funny answer but it was a darn sight more
interesting than the question or your suggested answer!  (Thanks for posting
this stuff babble, I haven't got so worked up in weeks!!)

Last night (1 May 91) Morrissey did a concert in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Since I managed to get a ticket, I was one of the <1000 people who got the
chance to hear (and see) Morrissey LIVE!
In this letter I will tell you my impressions of this concert.

The support act 'Phranc' (a female singer who also plays guitar) started
at 8.15 pm. I guess her performance was ok, but nobody was really
interested in her music (maybe because everyone was waiting anxiously for
what was coming next). Nevertheless, I admire her guts to sing without any
other musicians before a rather apathetic audience. At 9.00 her last
song was over.

The next 30 minutes several roadies were preparing the stage for Morrissey
and his band, e.g. mikes were connected, glasses of water and towels were
laid down around the stage, etc.

At 9.30 the lights went out. After a couple of minutes 5 people came on
the stage: Morrissey + band !! Immediately, they started with the first
song: 'Interesting Drug'. Other songs they played (I'm doing this from
memory, therefore this list is in random order and, unfortunately, not
complete :-( ):
- Everyday Is Like Sunday
- Suedehead
- November Spawned a Monster
- The Last Of The Famous International Playboys
- Our Frank
- Asian Rut
- Sing Your Life
- King Leer
The band consisted of a drummer, 2 guitar players and a (excessively
tattooed) bass player. In my opinion they supported Morrissey very well.
Since I was very lucky to be standing right before the stage, I could
notice that Morrissey's hearing aid (Smiths era) was replaced by several
plasters all over his chest.
At 10.45, after the second encore, Morrissey ripped down his shirt,
threw it into the audience and left: the show was over!

The concert was GREAT, I was only disappointed that it lasted only 75
minutes (including 2 encores).

The next time Morrissey comes to Holland (very soon I hope), I definitely
try to be there again.

Greetings,

 Eric

P.s. I hope others will send their impressions too! --------------+

Subject: Morrissey tours U.S.

Well, KROQ just announced the Morrissey concerts to take place at both
the Forum and the Pacific Ampitheater.  Tickets go on sale on Monday.
The Pacific Ampitheater show will be June 1 and the Great Western
Forum show will be June 2.  Good luck getting tickets if you're in
the L.A./Orange County area.  Tickets are being sold at TicketMaster
for the Forum show and Ticketron for the Pacific Amp. show.  Don't
ask why.

Well, since the tour is beginning to start, maybe we should try to get
a concert calendar together for Morrissey's U.S. tour.  I think he's
currently touring Europe.
