Subject: Strangeways

It's March 4. Kill Uncle Eve. I decided to mosey on down to the radio station.
SURELY the record company would want there to be some airplay for this before
the release. Surely Los Angeles is not the only city in America that got the
album in advance. Surely if Kevin got the single, a radio station would have
it.

I patted the metal cassette in my pocket that would serve as a substitute for
the CD until my girlfriend buys it for me (can't pass up any chance to get a
free disc, even if it means waiting a few days! :-) ) I walked into the music
director's office.

"All right, let's see it!" I said.

The look in his eyes said it all. How could this be true? Why was life
treating me so badly? Why can't I even hear one new song from Kill Uncle?

AND...will it really be in the store tomorrow?

For what it's worth an early review of Morrissey's 'Kill Uncle':
Mr. Morrissey don't open your mouth if you have nothing to say.
I understand how you want to be in a class by yourself, alone, alone,
alone, ... But to be diverse for the purpose of being diverse is nothing
to be proud of. Look at other people who have gone solo and didn't loose
quality, Lloyd Cole, Ian Mac,... Let's face it the music has been good
(ie November Spawned, Journalists who lie, Interesting Drug) it's you.
You have proved that no one man can take on the pop music and change it.
I hate to think that the problem is with the song not the singer. Atleast
you have already written the theme to your demise (TO PAINT A VULGAR PICTURE)
and you're comeback( RUBBER RING). Morrissey's dead boys. You can trust me
boys.
Please respond to me by e-mail if you have any comments. But before
assuming that I'm daft, and have no knowledge about the subject, I have 25
tapes worth of stuff on him and the Smiths.

But i'm not so proud anymore.

[I've already replied to Mr. X's post (I think Michael just omitted his
name, although almost everyone on this list saw the comment from other-
voices). I think lyrically, Morrissey hasn't lost anything. Classic
lyrics from "Get Off the Stage", "Our Frank" or "King Leer" represent
everything from the pop sub-culture to the way people look upon others.
In my opinion, nothing is lost by Morrissey, but the music just isn't
the same without Johnny Marr. I think there's also an inconsistency
between songs as different people tend to be writting the music.
Nevertheless, we cannot judge Morrissey's individual efforts against
The Smiths since there really is not comparison. In my opinion, there
isn't a better musician than Johnny Marr.
Speaking of Johnny Marr, I just saw a new The The single out. I don't
recall the name, though. I guess he's happy with The The.

Subject: Kill Uncle

Well, I'm listening to it now. If I bug the CD store long enough, they'll
give me a copy of it when it happens to come in. (I waited for UPS to
deliver). Anyway, it's a mere 37 minutes with 11 tracks on it. I think
I posted the track names in a previous issue. Everyone should know that
only 5000 copies of _Kill Uncle_ with "Tony the Pony" were manufactured.
This is on the American version only. I want to try to find the UK release
somewhere to see if there's a difference...anyone not from the US have
the new album yet? Is it true that "Tony the Pony" isn't on that version?

Anyway, overall, it's not bad. Morrissey is one who grows on you. I can
say that I didn't care much for _Viva Hate_ when it came out but after
listening to it more carefully and for extended periods of time, it became
one of my favorites. BTW...favorite albums are:
The World Won't Listen The Smiths
English Settlement XTC
Disintegration The Cure
Viva Hate Morrissey
Express Love and Rockets
Closer Joy Division
I'd be curious to know what other people's favorite albums are, whether
or not the Smiths are at the top of the list (as long as they are IN the
list somewhere :-) )

Anyway, the album continues playing and I've noticed that the first
half of the album is relatively upbeat with songs similar to "Our Frank".
But the second half starts to really get depressing, but classic Morrissey.
So far, I like "There's a Place In Hell For Me And My Friends" the best.

Well, enough of my blabbering...anyone else have any opinions of the album?

Where did everyone go? I haven't been receiving posts from anyone lately.
Sorry this issue is a little short but I think it might spark some discussion
on Strangeways. =K=
