<M>__ NEWS FLASH
The Political Maelstrom Continues
=================================
A constant fury has ensued since the posting
of several articles:
1. "Flow Chart Symbols (using ASCII)..",
2. "QIC NEWS vol.1 Special Edition #1",
3. "Ramblings about the Convention",
4. "HANG THE ENGINEER -- tort of consequences",
5. "Ramblings about the Convention - translated",
In #1, a table of symbols was posted in hope of
creating a possible new form of communication. In #2, the
editors were trying to relate the frustrations of getting a
tape drive by using articles from other people. In #3,
[email protected] attempted to communicate the need for a
cross platform development of the QIC-40/80 tape drives.
In #4, in what seemed to be a retaliatory expression, an
Engineering theological point was argued. In #5, another attempt
was made at communication in a adhoc translated form of #3.
Comments have been rampant, in example:
"You are wasting my bandwidth!" ,
"Are you on Drugs?",
"You need counseling!".
Most of these comments involve "Ramblings about the
Convention", which is considered, by some, to be psycho-babble.
Here are the facts:
===================
[email protected] (Will Rose), in a heroic manner, has
taken on the sole responsibility of retribution for the
omnipressed. Here are his comments:
From:
[email protected] (Will Rose):
"Please try and restrict your postings to the one
or two groups, in which there may be interest.
Wading through long and irrelevant cross postings
becomes increasingly irritating."
At the present, Mr. Rose is continuing his crusade by
returning to
[email protected] all his postings in an almost
computer-like automated mode. The returned parcels include the
usual over-sized mail header, the original posting, and a
one-liner:
"Please do not cross-post to inappropriate news groups."
Meanwhile, on the comp.os.386bsd.* newsgroups, discourse
continues on the by-line "The Great Prophets" in #2. Alluding to
alleged inactivity and supposed apostolistic attitude, QIC NEWS
has received these comments:
From:
[email protected]():
"Though you may not think so, I mean this question in all
seriousness and hope (but not necessarily expect) to get
a serious answer; also note that I'm not making a public
query of this, since it would probably only be detrimental
to all concerned.
My question is, literally, 'Are you on drugs?'
:: [deleted] ::
I've known more than my fair share of drug abusers...
:: [deleted] ::
Since these can also be signs of an offbeat personality,
a deliberately unique style of experimental writing,
or just plain perversity,
:: [deleted] ::
If you do, I wish you the best of luck in shaking it.
If not, then all I can say is that you do
a very good imitation!"
Other People that were incensed by the entire set of issues may
form their own revolt. Here are some comments from them:
From:
[email protected] (Garrett D'Amore)
:
"I don't know who else I speak for, but this whole
thread seems rather irrelevant to ... -- at least
from my perspective. Please either ...
:: [deleted] ::"
From:
[email protected]
"Please, your rambling only fuels the
'split this newsgroup' fire which
smolders continuously on ..."
QIC NEWS, in an almost defiant nature, is returning the
on-slaught with quips, puns, and psycho-babble.
Here are some comments:
>> > Wait, I'm starting to diverge again.
>>
>> Please, save us from mass hysteria!
>>
I am glad this line was received with
the intent it was written.

I think you are following along very well.

I don't think you need to go to that much
trouble on my account.

Hey... you might want to copyright that early!
Could make you a million!
>> However, unless your aditude improves a bit,
>> I am gonna stick you in my kill file.
>>
AHHHHH.... I will die from this surely..
please don't!!
>> Hoping that things will improve with your mind,
>>
*I* certainly hope so.
>> Is he by any means related to the more famous Jesus
>> who rambled about some 2000 years ago?

Hmm... another compliment! WOW!!!!...
In the future, I must write more in this style.
On the sidelines, some other individuals add their comments:
From:
[email protected] (Matt Welsh)
"This is my favorite posting of the DECADE.
Talk about one hell of an RFD."
From: Frederick E Gray <
[email protected]>
"You've been getting so much crap lately that
I'd like to express my opinion
:: [deleted] ::
There are few good examples of technical humor
and yours is one. You obviously missed a great
career as a humorist but I'm sure that the
engineering/CompSci profession has gained from
literature's loss."
From:
[email protected] (Juha-Matti Liukkonen)
"Duh. I've gotta hand it to you, Jesus
(wow - I've always wanted to say that :)
that this was either one of the most creative
or most idiotic posts I've seen in a while .."
From: scott allen long <
[email protected]>
"I'd like to say that although this might seem strange,
I actually understood the meaning and intent of your
original article. In fact, I was about to do something
similar. You just saved me the flames =-)
What can I say; most of us here are engineers,
and engineers just aren't poets!"
From:
[email protected]
Subject: Re: HANG THE ENGINEER -- tort of consequences
"You did a good job writing it... Usually I see this
quality of writing in rec.poems or some such group."
Continuing, there are other parties wishing to remain neutral
that we must report on:
From:
[email protected] (Nan Zou):
"No, he's probably just an AI program run amok from
some secret Microsoft laboratory."
Finally, the one-liners in this event go to:
From: Rafal <
[email protected]>
Subject: Re: Ramblings about the Convention - translated
I know English is my second language, but this makes
absolutly NO sense..
How in God's name do references to popsicles, childhood,
and phallic symbols relate to tape drives or floppy
controllers??
What do Freud [Fraud?], dirty sex, and losers have to do
with this project? I seem to have missed the link.
No... You diverged at the very beginning... By now you're
going off on tangents-of-tangents-of-tangets...
If you really want to make it fun, increase your
signal to noise ratio...
If you're really into putting 6 different meanings
into everything, start your own branch of psychiatry...
What the hell does my girlfriend have to do with the
FDC project?
Meandering, pointless and psychotic come closer to the point...
If you ramble, you cannot communicate with anyone..
AND YOU DO RAMBLE!
