<1>__ What the heck is QIC?

QIC is an acronym that stands for Quarter Inch Cartridge.
Kind of a blurred meaning since some cartridges are
       big and some are tiny.

What they wanted to state is that the tape, the physical
media, is 1/4" (one quarter inch) wide.

What else is great for us:
The standard cartridge sizes make this very cheap to manufacture,
hence we get a high performance storage subsystem.
The wide variety of storage capabilities make sure that
there is one for just about everyone.
Sizes range from 40meg tapes to 10gig tapes.
The use of standard interfaces make it relatively easy
               to add a tape subsystem.
The open standard allows for the ability of
               cross-platform development.
The plan for various file systems gives it the ability
to cross OS (Operating System) lines fairly easy.

       Am I making this up?
       The address follows.

       Hi,

I'm not a 386BSDer, but i'm interested in your efforts to
make a qic-40/80 for the 386BSD system. I have started the
same project for Linux. Maybe we can share experience and
knowledge so that either side can profit from the other
project. If that sounds reasonable for you, please drop me
       a note.

I'm working on the Linux port of Dave Browns
ftape-1.02 driver. Have you started your driver form scratch?
