Okay, I'll be honest. The whole Ramsey thing is really getting quite boring
and most of the people involved are talking about moving on to better things.
I mean really, it's been like nine months now and the whole thing is getting
just slightly repetative. We steal hats, it causes a commotion, the original
hat steps in and and pleads for everyone to ignore the hat stealer because it
isn't him/her, they do web searches for PLA, they follow links, they post all
the information they find and claim that they're detectives, everyone gets
bored with it all, it dies down and a week later the whole process starts
over again.

My harddrive is overfilled with old Ramsey posts that I've yet to publish,
though, so I anticipate about two more issues of BNF before we fold. The
Ramsey forum is getting close to being back to normal and currently only about
every 4th post is somehow related to the PLA which is pretty damn good. In
fact, it looks as though the PLA posts on there now are being done only by the
forum regulars. It's just like Spessa once said - they need us. We're as
entertaining to them as they are to us. None of them will ever forget us or
the PLA, even though "the PLA" wasn't even involved in this whole mess.

This issue will start out with some posts that started popping up on the
Boulder News Forum's Opinion board about the Ramsey case. See, the regular
BNFers could no longer hold a decent conversation in the Ramsey forum, so
they all tried to secretly migrate to a different forum only to find that the
regulars in THAT forum didn't want them there talking about dead little girls.
So that didn't last too long.

Apologies to all for discussing JBR on this forum.
Ordinarily we discuss the issue on the Ramsey forum,
but over the last weekend it's been completely trashed
by hackers. These hackers have been around for months,
steadily escalating their efforts to make the forum
unusable.
Lately, they've been adding scores of garbage threads,
bumping all of the real discussion threads down and
into the archives.

For the record, here's what we're dealing with:
what follows is an essay by one of the founders
of the hacker group, and it pretty much sums up
their philosophy of life. (Incidentally, some of the
tricks they've pulled on the Ramsey forum were
straight out of the instructions below, so, yes,
they really do these kinds of things).

I'm really concerned about what has happened here.
Basically, anyone, even really brainless people, can
stop public opinion from being expressed anywhere on
the internet.

The fact that these "hackers" are essentially
maladjusted teenagers and that the JBR forum is hardly
of earthshaking importance is not the point.

There really is a freedom of speech issure here.
ISP's like Kracked.com actually support these people in
the NAME of free speech. Nothing is being done to stop
them.

Next time will it be a political forum? Or a forum of
doctors discussing medical issues? Will political
tricksters hire people to trash forums belonging to the
other party?

The webmaster at BNF has tried, but I'm sure the BN
resources for this are small. These people pick on
small forums with limited resources. Technically, it's
child's play to do what these trashers they have done.
It's on the same level as an obscene phone call, or a
swastika on a wall.

I don't really care about the JBR case anymore. In
fact, I'm kind of bored with it. But I refuse to let my
freedom to express myself on the internet be taken
away.

And this problem can be solved easily. BNF can tell
where the posts are coming from. They can contact the
ISP's of the people doing this. They can show the ISPs
the evidence of what has been done. And those ISP's can
apply the same standard to this they would to a member
selling child porn.

Taking away our freedon of speech is the ultimate porn.

Relatedly:

There were a number of posts over the weekend of names,
addresses, and phone numbers which ostensibly belonged
to the hackers, their ISPs, etc. Well, I didn't check
these out, but based on RedBox's above-stated
principles, it sounds pretty likely that most of these
names and addresses, etc. probably belonged to people
who the hackers wanted to harass. Luring BNF people into
doing the harassing for them would fit right into their
way of doing things. A twofer.

They also rather cleverly got around a modification
in the BN software which prevented anyone from adding
more than one thread per hour. They put an icon on
their own web page which, when clicked, executed a CGI
script which created a new thread on the Ramsey forum
(in the name of the person who clicked on it, not their
own name). This led to the creation of scores of garbage
threads, shutting down the forum again.

These people thrive on misdirection. Be very careful
about clicking on anything on their web page, or about
believing any information on the Ramsey forum that
purports to identify who the hackers really are. They'll
be happy to send you in the wrong direction.

And if you read the material in V's first post you can
see that they really are indredibly tedious people.

I would like to know what BNF's intentions are. Some of
us have worked very hard to try to keep the forum open.
Is this a waste of time? Has BNF given up? The heavy
spamming began again today during business hours. Is
BNF allowing itself to be shut down by a bunch of not
too bright teen agers?

Will other forums soon be shut down too?
Will your paper be allowed to published? Is this really
any different than if someone threw a sabot into your
printing presses?

I called the The Boulder Daily Camera since they
monitor this site, and was told it is an open forum and
there is NOTHING they will do to stop this
nonsense/sabotage. Feel free to call them and let them
know how you feel. (303)473-1202. I wonder how much
they get paid from advertisers for each hit on this
site. Revenues must be up thanks to the PLA jerkoffs.

They don't monitor the site. If they did they might
notice the obscenities and do something about it. They
think it is a kids' war that is beneath their dignity
to investigate. They are ignoring all complaints. What
did they do to change the site after the first
complaints? Added ISP numbers. Who did that help? No
one posted anymore because the PLA were sitting there
writing down our numbers. Then that was taken off. One
post per hour was started. Who did that help? The PLA
figured out how to post at the speed of light. How are
they doing it? This has been brought to the attention
of the Boulder News and there has been no response
except a one-time deletion of the long titled threads
and a change in thread title so it can't be long. Dan
deletes offensive posts from his board so people stop
trying. The Boulder News has no employee who cares to
do that. They act like it is funny and unimportant. I
agree, but people are still posting here. If you would
ALL make an exodus to Dan's forum we could all stop
coming here. The PLA could try all they wanted but Dan
would delete their posts. We could get back to normal.

[Dan's Forum is another Ramsey discussion board run by
joshua-7.com where some of the BNF regulars were trying
to get everyone to move to so they could escape the
harassment. ]

I think that when you view a thread here it is posting a new
thread to the BNF. Also when you view a thread with a picture
that is on their site, they are getting your IP address. You
don't even have to post, just browse for this to happen.

[Actually is what happened is the PLA set up another autoposting
page that looked innocently like a child pornography disclaimer
page. It said "you must be under the age of 18 to view child
pornography so click here if you're under 18" and of course
everyone would click the icon which didn't take them to a kiddie
porn page, but took them to joshua-7.com with a message saying,
"Your post has been added to the discussion!" Then several of
the forum trashers sat in every pre-teen porn channel on IRC,
automatically messaging everyone who joined with the URL...]

They have a page set up somewhere known only to them where they
can click on a link and it starts a new thread here or on BNF.
They used to publicize this page on BNF asking everyone to click
on the links so whenever people visited and clicked a new thread
was started (on the BNF). Well after a BNF person caught on the
page was taken down (it was on tripod). Recently they have said
they have a new page up with the same idea, but they aren't
telling where it is. They are visiting the page and clicking the
links themselves instead of having unknowing people do it. So my
guess is they have it set up to create new threads not just on
BNF but here as well. Of course, I could be wrong but I'm just
going on what they said at the BNF. I don't think they are
capable of hacking into any systems. I mean, wouldn't they have
to physically put (upload) a script on this site or Boulder News?
I don't think they have the access to do that. But who knows?

I'm not sure...but for now, I am able to block all of their new
posts...and I ain't disclosing what I had to do to block them
off. But we'll see, at least we're winning the battle. Let these
loser spend next few days trying to figure out what I did...

P.S. They aren't hackers. Someone called the hackers on the BNF
and they got all in a huff. They even posted it on one of their
web pages emphatically stating they aren't. Although they may
have friends who are hackers who are helping them or it may be a
different group entirely. Not that it matters anyway, right? :)

wonder about the "repost from data" I get everytime I go to post
on this forum, it only started a few days ago, and maybe you
answered it and I missed with all the "interesting" threads? I
just click cancel when it pops up, but I am curious. However, if

On one of their web sites they have a detailed narrative of how
they shut down a Christian bulletin board in 1995, complete with
posted letters and dialogue.

Once they succeed in making people fed up enough to shut down a
forum, their work is done, they are happy, and they move on to
something else.

They are frustrated that shutting down this and the BNF has not
been that easy, and in spite of themselves they seem to be
fascinated by the subject matter and the people here. Last week
they posted really bad "poetry" full of their nihilistic
philosophies.

Their whole point is, whatever we do - retaliate, block, or
ignore - they continue laughing.

They get bored for weeks at a time but something on August 9th
triggered a major attack which has lasted longer than usual. It
used to be weekends only. It used to be BNF only. They are
obsessed now so there are only three choices for regular posters.
1) ignore them and post around them when possible; 2) give up the
forums; 3) admit they are part of the forum world - reply to them
as you see fit, since they so enjoy the subject matter and seem
to want to be educated in spite of themselves.

Just my opinion after observing their warfare for 2 weeks.

If what you say is true, that they like the subject, why are they
deleting every thread's posts? I guess it's part of their "logic"
.LOL.
Just looked and the thread titles are the same, number of posts
appear the same, but when you go to the thread all have been
removed. Crazy, are these some kind of fascists? It could be!
I don't think I'll post there again until it gets better.
I hope we can find our frienly posters herabouts. And thanks Dan
for having us.

Of course they will have moved off the end anyways. I'll check

That just means the threads have been archived. If you click on a
thread at the bottom of the board in the time it takes to load
the pranksters may have already posted 2 or 3 new threads,
knocking the one you are trying to look at into the archives.
They are not capable of deleting posts, don't worry.

Mel, I don't know much (anything) about computers but I was
speaking to a friend of mine at the University of New Brunswick
(Canada) and she knows a lot about the kind of stuff that's going
on with these hackers and all. She has a sister at Rice
University who loves shutting these guy's down. Apparently, she
can track them and do something that's called "snailing",
whatever that means an some how lock onto them. My friend says
she "snails" them then "cooks" them. I would assume this means
she shuts them down. When I asked her she said we just do what we

I, too, had the pleasure of chatting with Tannest on #jonbenet last
night. It was most interesting to discover that she is one of our old
timers that also changed hats. I found her knowledge of the Ramsey case
far exceeding many of the posters here now. She has kept up with the
case since January like many of us old regulars. It is such a shame
that we all have to change hats due to the vile that is spewed on these
threads. Tannest, I look forward to seeing you and LogicBox again on

By the way, I figured out what your old hat was and you were always one
