Use this poem to identify and spot N names. elicit new N names, and then
brainstorm other places to live that begin with a N from your class.

Nancy, Nick, and Ned live in Nashville with me
Natalie, Nina, and Neal want to visit and see.
What other N kids do you think live there
In marvelous Nashville far far away from here?


Interview 6 people and ask them this question:  Did you ever have a
nickname?  Show your results.

Describe a  nest and then illustrate the nest.  Fill in the blanks:  I built
my nest with ______________, ________________, and _______________.

Write a class newsletter.

Take an imaginary ride in space to Neptune and describe what you see and
then illustrate your story.

Use Nerds as counters or for simple math problems:  estimating, counting,
adding, sorting, patterns, subtracting, or bingo markers.

Use different size and color napkins for a math lesson demonstrating:
color, shape, size, sorting, and counting.

Brainstorm what makes you nervous and ask children how that feels?

Graph what time at night the children in your class go to bed.

If I were a nurse I would _________________, but I wouldn't________________.

Create class N charts and place child's name at the end of his/her sentence:

Make a list of nightmares that children share with the class.

Find objects that are neutral in color.

Make a collage using noodles for an art project.

Trace the children's hands and have them decorate their nails.

Taste Neapolitan ice cream and see if you can guess the flavors.  Graph the
results.

List names that begin with N and talk about what you see or hear.

Check names in the class for n sounds.  Make a graph of children that have
the N sound in their name.

Read a poem and have children color code all the n words.

Try introducing this n word: noose   Ask the children what they notice about
the word.  Make a yes or no graph: Do you believe that there are monsters?

Whose family has the most N names?

Use these words to rhyme:  net no nip nab nut

Tongue Twister:  No new neighbors nearby.

describe what they notice and observe.

Take a nature walk and make a predictable chart:  Nature is.......

Number your students and use this technique to line them up or place them in
groups.
