The purpose of this file is to present another view of "Easter", or Passover,
events. As to Peter's denials, I believe that there is no contradiction between
the Mark prophecy that Peter would deny Christ THREE times before the cock
crowed TWICE, and the prophecy in the other gospels that Peter would deny
Christ THREE times before the cock crowed ONCE. I hope to show that Peter
denied Christ three times before the cock crowed the first time, and then
continued in error until he had denied Christ at least three more times before
the cock crowed the second time. As to Christ being forsaken on the cross by
His Father, I believe that Christ was not forsaken by His Father and that He
quoted the Psalm 22:1 phrase "My God! My God! Why have you forsaken
me?" both to comfort Himself by the rest of that Psalm and perhaps to point us
to it to show us that that Psalm described key events in His crucifixion. He was
always conscious of fulfilling scripture and He was fulfilling Psalm 22 at the
time He quoted it.
My aim is to show the enormity of Peter's sin, and the awesome wonder of
God's grace and forgiveness to Peter after such a terrible fall. For Peter the
truth of the matter was in the proverb, the one who is forgiven the most loves
the most. Jesus predicted Peter's fall and his restoration. In fact, in predicting
his restoration, he assigned a very important ministry to Peter knowing full
well how awful his fall would be.
Jesus came and died for us knowing full well we would sin and have sinned.
He loves us in spite of our failures and shortcomings because He is the God
who is unselfish and compassionate cherishing. Our God, who knew the sin
and the sinning "saint" of 1 Cor. 5, also knew that 1 Cor. 5 would result in
repentance (2 Cor. 2) resulting from godly sorrow (2 Cor. 7). These passages
show that the repentant and sorrowing sinning "saint" is to welcomed back in
the full Love of the fellowship of the saints/church. The Lord gave Peter the
comfort (2 Cor. 1) of being among the first to see Him after His resurrection and
used him mightily throughout the book of Acts. So God forgives and
recommissions His children even after awful and public failure in the lives.
Consider Peter's denials. They are at least distinguished by where it happened,
who spoke to whom, and what was said. If you went further and distinguished
them by what Peter said, you would come up with even more denials than the
six listed below.
1. PETER'S FIRST DENIAL TO A GIRL DOORKEEPER IN THE COURTYARD
John 18:15 And Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. That disciple
was known to the high priest, and he went in with Jesus into THE COURT of
the high priest. 16 But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple
went out, the one who was known to the high priest, and spoke to her who
kept the door and brought Peter in [THE COURT]. 17 Then THE GIRL who
kept the door said to Peter, ARE YOU NOT ALSO [ONE] OF THIS MAN'S
DISCIPLES? He said, I am not.
2. PETER'S SECOND DENIAL, STANDING BY THE FIRE, TO THOSE NEAR
HIM.
JOHN 18: 18 And the servants and officers who had made a fire of coals stood
there, for it was cold. And they warmed [themselves]. And PETER STOOD with
them and warmed himself. 25 And Simon PETER STOOD and warmed
himself. Then THEY SAID TO HIM, ARE YOU NOT ALSO [ONE] OF HIS
DISCIPLES? He denied and said, I am not.
3. PETER'S THIRD DENIAL TO THE HIGH PRIEST'S FEMALE SERVANT
Matt 26:69 And PETER SAT outside IN THE COURT. And A GIRL came to
him, saying, YOU ALSO WERE WITH JESUS OF GALILEE. 70 But he denied all
before [them], saying, I do not know what you say.
JOHN 18:26 One of the SERVANTS OF THE HIGH PRIEST, being kinsman to
him whose ear Peter cut off, said, DID I NOT SEE YOU IN THE GARDEN
WITH HIM? 27 Peter then denied again. And IMMEDIATELY A COCK
CROWED.
Mark 14:66 And as Peter was below in the palace, one of the SERVANT
WOMEN of the high priest came. 67 And when she saw Peter warming
himself, she looked on him and said, AND YOU ALSO WERE WITH JESUS
THE NAZARENE. 68 But he denied, saying, I do not know nor even
understand what you are saying. And he went out into the forecourt. AND A
COCK CROWED.
4. PETER'S FOURTH DENIAL TO A SERVANT/SLAVE GIRL, AS HE SAT BY
THE FIRE IN THE COURT.
MATT. 26: 71 And when he had gone out into THE PORCH, ANOTHER SAW
HIM AND SAID TO THOSE THERE, THIS ONE WAS ALSO WITH JESUS OF
NAZARETH. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
MARK 14: 69 And A SERVANT WOMAN SAW HIM AGAIN and began to
say to those who stood by, THIS [ONE] IS OF THEM. 70 And he denied it again.
. . . . .
Luke 22:54 And laying hold on Him, they led [Him] away and brought Him
into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off. 55 And lighting a fire
in [the] middle of THE COURT, and they sitting down, PETER SAT in their
midst. 56 But a certain SLAVE-GIRL saw him as he sat by the fire and earnestly
looked on him and said, THIS [MAN] WAS WITH HIM ALSO. 57 And he
denied Him, saying, Woman, I do not know Him.
5. PETER'S FIFTH DENIAL TO A MAN
LUKE 22: 58 And after a little while ANOTHER saw him and said, YOU ALSO
ARE OF THEM. And Peter said, Man, I am not!
6. PETER'S SIXTH DENIAL TO THOSE WHO STOOD BY
MATT. 26: 73 And after a little while THOSE WHO STOOD BY came and said
to Peter, SURELY YOU ALSO ARE [ONE] OF THEM, FOR YOUR SPEECH
BETRAYS YOU. 74 Then he began to curse and to swear, I do not know the
man. AND IMMEDIATELY THE COCK CROWED. 75 And Peter remembered
the word of Jesus, Who said to him, BEFORE THE COCK CROWS, YOU
SHALL DENY ME THREE TIMES. And he went out and wept bitterly.
MARK 14: 70 . . . And a little after, THOSE WHO STOOD BY said again to Peter,
SURELY YOU ARE [ONE] OF THEM, FOR YOU ARE A GALILEAN, AND
YOUR SPEECH AGREES. 71 But he began to curse and to swear, [saying], I do
not know this man of whom you speak. 72 And tHE SECOND TIME A COCK
CROWED. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said to him, BEFORE A
COCK CROWS TWICE, YOU WILL DENY ME THREE TIMES. And thinking
on [it], he wept.
LUKE 22:59 And about an hour afterward, ANOTHER confidently affirmed,
saying, TRULY THIS ONE WAS ALSO WITH HIM, FOR HE IS A GALILEAN.
60 And Peter said, Man, I do not know what you say. And immediately, while
he still spoke, THE COCK CROWED. 61 And the Lord turned and looked on
Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him,
BEFORE THE COCK CROWS, YOU SHALL DENY ME THREE TIMES. 62 And
Peter went out and wept bitterly.
Was it worldly sorrow that results in death? It was godly sorrow that resulted
in godly repentance and the following:
John21: 15 Then when they broke fast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, [son]
of Jonah, do you love Me more than these? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You
know that I love You. He said to him, Feed My lambs. 16 He said to him the
second time, Simon, [son] of Jonah, do you love Me? He said to Him, Yes, Lord,
You know that I love You. He said to him, Feed My sheep. 17 He said to him
the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonah, do you love Me? Peter was grieved
because He said to him a third [time], Do you love Me? And he said to Him,
Lord, You know all things, You know that I love You. Jesus said to him, Feed
My sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, When you were young, you girded
yourself and walked where you wished. But when you grow old, you shall
stretch forth your hands and another shall gird you and carry [you] where [you]
do not wish. 19 He spoke this signifying by what death he should glorify God.
And when He had spoken this, He said to him, Follow Me.
20 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following
(the one who also leaned on His breast at supper, and said, Lord, who is he who
betrays You?) 21 Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, Lord, and what [of] this one? 22
Jesus said to him, If I desire that he remain until I come, what [is that] to you?
You follow Me.

IF THE FATHER FORSOOK HIS ONLY-BEGOTTEN SON DYING ON THE
CROSS IN OBEDIENCE TO HIM, THEN SURELY THE FATHER MIGHT
FORSAKE US WHEN WE FALL INTO SIN OR ARE OVERCOME BY SOME
SIN, CONTRARY TO ALL HIS PROMISES TO US. I BELIEVE THAT THE
FATHER DID NOT FORSAKE THE SON ON THE CROSS THAT TERRIBLE
DAY AND I SHALL ATTEMPT TO SHOW THAT HE HAD NO CAUSE TO
FORSAKE HIS SON, THAT GOD THE FATHER CANNOT FORSAKE GOD
THE SON, AND THAT HE WILL NEVER LEAVE US NOR FORSAKE US FOR
NO ONE, NOT EVEN OURSELVES, CAN TAKE US OUT OF HIS HANDS
(John 10).
MATTHEW 27: 46* And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice,
saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is, My God, My God, why have You
forsaken me? 47 Some of those who stood there, when they heard, said, This
one calls for Elijah. 48 And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge
and filled it with vinegar, and he put [it] on a reed and gave it to Him to drink.
49 The rest said, Let Him alone, let us see whether Elijah will come to save
Him.
Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to crush Him; to grieve Him; [that] He should
put forth His soul as a guilt-offering. He shall see [His] seed, He shall prolong
[His] days, and the will of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
La 1:12 [Is it] nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see if there is any
sorrow like my sorrow which is done to me, with which the LORD has afflicted
[me] in the day of His fierce anger.
Heb 5:7* [For Jesus], in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers
and supplications with strong cryings and tears to Him who was able to save
Him from death, and was heard in that He feared . . . . .
Did you get that? He was heard, not forsaken! He was obedient unto death, so
why should His Father forsake Him?
He does not forsake His obedient ones because He has promised never to leave
or forsake us (Matt. 28:19,20).
LUKE 23: 46 And crying with a loud voice, Jesus said, Father, into Your hands I
commit My spirit. And when He had said this, He breathed out the spirit. 47
And when the centurion saw what had been done, he glorified God, saying,
Truly this Man was righteous.
If He were forsaken, why would He talk to His father, committing His Spirit to
Him? He knew He was heard and spoke thusly to His Father.

Tyler=In one breath the prophet says that God cannot look upon iniquity and

Come on prophet, get it straight! I believe that Habakkuk was speaking out of
his own heart and zeal, like the companions of Job, and that the Spirit
accurately recorded what the prophet said for our edification. I believe that it is
an accurate statement of what the prophet said but I do not believe that it is an
accurate statement of the Truth about God.
[and] holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth [the man that is] more
righteous than he?
Since God Himself is "a discerner of the thoughts and intents of [the] heart"
and the heart is deceitfully wicked SO GOD LOOKS ON, SEES, BEHOLDS,
PERCEIVES AND DISCERNS OUR DECEITFUL WICKEDNESS
-- THE VERY DECEITFUL WICKEDNESS THAT CHRIST BORE ON/IN HIS
BODY ON THE CROSS. CHRIST AND OUR TERRIBLE DECEITFUL
WICKEDNESS WAS FULLY SEEN AND DISCERNED BY THE FATHER
WHEN CHRIST SAID "MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME". THE
FATHER LOOKED UPON THE DYING BODY OF JESUS AND OUR SINS IN
HIS BODY, FOR NOTHING IS CONCEALED OR HIDDEN FROM HIS SIGHT.
Perhaps from infinite Jesus' point of view in his finite (remember Mk. 13:32;
Luke 8:44-47) body of flesh and blood our iniquities had separated his bodily
consciousness from His Father --- perhaps our sin had hidden His Father's face
from Jesus' view and to Jesus it appeared He did not hear--
Could it be a case of "but your iniquities have separated between you and your
God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he doth not hear."Isaiah
59:2
PERHAPS HIS FACE WAS HIDDEN FROM JESUS VIEW AND PERHAPS HIS
FATHER DID NOT SPEAK TO HIM AT THAT TIME, BUT NEVER FOR A
SECOND WAS JESUS OUT OF HIS DISCERNING SIGHT.
Besides all of that, He bore our sins in His body (1 Peter 2:24 with Hebrews 10:5-
10 and 2 Corinth.5:21), not in His holy and sinless Spirit. His body bore the
curse of hanging on a tree for surely He was cursed by His enemies who stood
around the cross and His body experienced the curse of death, BUT HIS SPIRIT
remained sinless and holy throughout the whole experience because the Word
makes it perfectly clear that He bore our sins in/on His BODY, NOT IN HIS
SPIRIT.
I believe that Jesus knew exactly what He was doing when He quoted Psalm
22:1. I believe that He was speaking His Word to Himself to strengthen
Himself through the ordeal. I believe that He not only quoted Psalm 22:1 to
Himself, but that He brought to His mind the whole Psalm which shows that
He was not really forsaken, but surely felt forsaken.
Psalm 22:1 To the Chief Musician, on the deer of the dawn. A Psalm of
David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me, and [are] far from my
deliverance, [and from] the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry in the
daytime, but You do not answer; and in the night, and am not silent. 3 But You
[are] holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in You; they
trusted, and You delivered them. 5 They cried to You, and were delivered; they
trusted in You, and were not ashamed. 6 But I [am] a worm, and no man; a
reproach of men, and despised by the people. 7 All who see me laugh me to
scorn; they shoot out the lip; they shake the head, [saying], 8 He trusted on the
LORD; let Him deliver him; let Him rescue him, since He delights in him! 9
For You [are He] who took me out of the womb, causing me to trust [when I
was] on my mother's breasts.10 I was cast on You from the womb; You [are] my
God from my mother's belly.
11 Be not far from me; for trouble [is] near, for [there is] none to help. 12
Many bulls have circled around me; strong [bulls] of Bashan have surrounded
me. 13 They opened wide their mouths on me, [like] a ripping and a roaring
lion. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are spread apart; my heart
is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. 15 My strength is dried up
like a potsherd, and my tongue clings to my jaws; 16 and You have brought me
into the dust of death. For dogs have circled around me; the band of spoilers
have hemmed me in, piercers of my hands and my feet. 17 I can count all my
bones; they look [and] stare at me. 18 They divide my garments among them
and cast lots for my clothing. 19 But You, O LORD, be not far from me; O my
strength, hurry to help me! 20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my only one
from the dog's hand. 21 Save me from the lion's mouth; from the wild oxen's
horns. You have answered me.
22 I will declare Your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation
I will praise You. 23 You who fear the LORD, praise Him; all of you, the seed of
Jacob, glorify Him; and fear Him all the seed of Israel. 24 For He has not
despised nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face
from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard. 25 My praise [shall be] of You
in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before the ones who fear Him.
I BELIEVE WITH ALL MY HEART THAT THAT IS WHAT JESUS SAID, FELT
AND BELIEVED ON THE CROSS THAT TERRIBLE DAY. "When He cried to
Him, He heard." and Jesus knew that He heard!
The following scriptures should be enough to end any doubt about God not
only looking upon the evil among us, but also that He fully knows and
understands it and will remember it for all those who face Him at the Great
White Throne on Judgment Day.
Psalm 9: 10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for
You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Psalm 90: 8 You have set our iniquities before You, our secret [sins] in the light
of Your face.
Hosea 7;1 When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim
was uncovered, and the wickedness of Samaria. For they have worked
falsehood. And the thief comes in, the troop of robbers plunders outside.
2 And they do not say within their hearts that I remember all their evil. Now
their own doings have hemmed them in; they are before My face.
Ezekiel 35: 12 And you shall know that I [am] the LORD. I have heard all your
blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying,
Desolation! They are given to us for food.
13 So with your mouth you have boasted against Me, and have multiplied
your words against Me. I have heard [them].
14 So says the Lord Jehovah: When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you a
ruin.
Job 31: 2 For what [is] the portion from God above? And [what is] the
inheritance from the Almighty on high?
3 [Is] not disaster to the perverse, and calamity to the workers of iniquity?
4 Does He not see my ways, and count all my steps?
Proverbs 5: 20 And why will you, my son, be ravished with a strange woman,
and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and He watches all
his paths.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with
the cords of his sin.
Job 1: 6 And a day came when the sons of God came to present themselves
before the LORD. And Satan also came among them.
7 And the LORD said to Satan, From where do you come? Then Satan
answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from
walking up and down in it.
8 And the LORD said to Satan, Have you set your heart against My servant Job,
because [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one
who fears God and turns away from evil?
9 And Satan answered the LORD and said, Does Job fear God for nothing?
Psalm 69: 5 O God, You know my foolishness, and my guiltiness [is] not hidden
from You.
Psalms 10: 11 He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; He hides His face; He
will not see forever!
12 Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Your hand; forget not the humble.
13 Why do the wicked condemn God? He has said in his heart, You will not
judge.
14 You have seen [it]; for You behold mischief and vexation, to repay [it] with
Your hand. The poor commits [himself] to You; You are the Helper of the
fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and the evil one; seek out his wickedness,
[until] You find none.
Proverbs 15: 3 The eyes of the LORD [are] in every place, beholding the evil
and the good.
Exodus 3:7 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of My people
who [are] in Egypt; I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; for I
know their sorrows.
Jeremiah 16: 17 For My eyes [are] on all their ways; they are not hidden from
My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes.
18 And first I will twice repay their iniquity and their sin, because they have
defiled My land, they have filled My inheritance with the dead bodies of their
abominable things.
That should be sufficient to put to rest the false doctrine the God cannot look
upon the evil, or that His eyes are too pure to behold the evil. God never took
His or his attention off of Jesus on the cross and Jesus knew it full well. He will
never leave us nor forsake us, even if we fall into some sin like the fornication
of 1 Cor. 5. As in 1 Cor. 5 He will chasten us with weakness, sickness and
perhaps even the sleep of death (1 Corinth 11); using famine, pestilence,
disease, war, violence, violent animals etc. (See Ezekiel). But we can always
count on Him that the purpose of His chastening us is our salvation and
perfection in Christ. He did not forsake Christ on the cross, and once we are
His He will never forsake us, whether we b e on a cross, in a fiery furnace, a
lion's den, Jeremiah's pit or etc. He who cannot lie has promised.
