M. N. Roy
Head of Lenin's COMINTERN Far Eastern Bureau
July 26, 1920, Session 4, "Supplementary Theses on the National and
Colonial Questions," John Riddell ed., The Communist International
in Lenin's Time Workers of the World and Oppressed Peoples,
Unite! Proceedings and Documents of the Second Congress, 1920, vol. 1,
(NY: Pathfinder Press), p. 219.
"Superprofits gained in the colonies are the mainstay of modern
capitalism. . . . By exploiting the masses in the colonies, European
imperialism is in a position to make concession after concession to the
labor aristocracy at home. While European imperialism seeks to lower the
standard of living of the home proletariat by bringing into competition
the production of the lower-paid workers in subject countries, it will not
hesitate to sacrifice even the entire surplus value in the home country,
so long as it preserves its huge superprofits in the colonies."
[MC5 adds from source above: M.N.Roy helped found the Mexican CP 1919 and
the Indian CP in 1920. He was on the COMINTERN Executive Committee as an
alternate member while Lenin was alive, 1922 to 1924. Then he was promoted
to full member from 1924 to 1927. Roy steadily degenerated politically
from the late 1920s onward. The quote above occurs from M.N.Roy's correct
phase, when he was head of the COMINTERN Far Eastern bureau in 1920.]
