c2. The tale of the dead man
The skies grew dark, the end was near.
He called for help, but no-one could hear.
The sound of eternal silence filled the room.
The room was permeated with doom and gloom.
The kindness of the stars so bright
Began to lighten this dismal sight.
Those mighty Roman candles all aglow
Flickered on and off so very slow.
Then the mighty winds of west began to blow
And blew out the candles high in the sky --
The man, so young, could not see why.
The illusion of darkness is what did him in.
His sight had gone, but he had seen so much
That his essence of life was soon lost from within.

1 - This was the second poem I wrote, completed in the Fall
of 1981; the first poem is one I wrote at the age of six
for my granfmother.
