If I had ever dreamed that my oldest son would grow up to be the moderator
of mod.recipes, I might have taught him how to make these cookies when he
was young. They were his favorite cookies.

Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.

Sift flour, salt, and soda and add to creamed sugars. Add oatmeal and nuts,
and mix well.
