Eric Frank Russell has written some wonderful stuff (as well as some that
just OK, but then one can't expect miracles). "And Then There Were None"
is a classic tale of passive resistance. A lot of Russell's work is
humorous. Not the fall down silly funny of Fredric Brown or Randall
Garrett, nor the sharp bitting satire of William Tenn, but a warm chuckle.
"The Best Of" is a good starting place for the Russell neopyte. (In fact,
the entire "Best of" series published by Del Rey in the middle-late 70's is
a great way of meeting the better authors of the 1940's and 1950's).
