I've really liked the two Edgar Pangborn novels I've read.  "Davy" is a
bawdy, Tom Jones-ish novel set after a post nuclear holocaust.  "A Mirror
for Observers" is a marvelous tale of extra-terestrial observers who must
decide between watching and and actively intervening in Earth culture.
Both these have wonderful characterizations & quite good prose.  I'll have
to read some more more Pangborn.

[C] == Short Story Collection.
