Hal Clement writes HARD hard SF. His science is meticulously accurate.
Most of his novels deal with very odd worlds, and the consequences of them
(high gravity, low temperature, ...). "Mission of Gravity", "Needle" and
"The Best of Hal Clement" are all ones I've read and can recommend. But
(as with many hard SF authors), his prose style can grate. Reportedly, his
latest efforts show improvement.
