And in a reversal of my typical policy, I'm including Fredric Brown mystery
books in addition to his SF. That's because (1) I really like his
mysteries [they're really great, any mystery fan should try them] & (2)
many of them have been recently reprinted.
Fredric Brown is one of SF's classic humourists. His speciality is short,
short-short & really-short stories with a twist (or twisted) ending. He
also wrote several memoriable novels: "Martians, Go Home" [where the earth
is invaded by little green men that don't *DO* anything, but do watch.
Watch everything. And make snide comments. I understand that it's being
made into a movie], "What Mad Universe" [an alternate universe where pulp
SF is real life] & "The Lights in the Sky Are Stars" [a fine serious story
of a man who isn't going into space, but helps fight for the jupiter
project]. Read most any Fredric Brown that you can find.
