David Brin is the award winning author of the Uplift series. (Startide
Rising is probably the best). Aside for "The Practice Effect" (an amusing
little novel, but completely light weight), I've found all of his stuff to
be quite good traditional SF. He does good short stories too. Now what we
need to do is clone him, so he can produce SF faster.
