But what do you do if it's not business hours and their shop is closed? Break in? Look around? Chance gettin arrested?    A hacker never gets arrested. You CAN change data without ever entering the place. Without ever entering the system even. Do you have a CB radio?    If so, this story should bring you some ideas. The only drawback is you wont know exactly what you changed or what you changed things into, but you can rest assured, you fouled up their next day.    Read on... WESTERLY, RI--(8/27/87)Last Monday the phone company and the local police entered VanVoorhees Real Estate Company responding to a second complaint that data had been changed on their computer.    They showed up armed with a tracer and a court-order ready to bust the person who was breaking in.    But no one was breaking in.    They would've left the tracer there for a whole month with little or no results if they lineman weren't about to phone his company to tell them the blasted thing was hooked up.    "Breaker 19," said the phone. "How bout a southbounder on that I-95. Lookin fine over your shoulder good buddy. Watch that weigh station over Niantic. Lots of bears."    Lo and behold, an old smokey check was coming over the phone. Interrupting the poor lineman's convo with his foreman. Oh well.    The transmission was coming from upstairs in an apartment. Some gentleman has a citizen's band radio. Plain and simple. 40 channels straight with two sidebands. A beam antenna, and a smaller backup antenna incase of skip.    What was different about this basestation? This one was almost half as powerful as the local radio station. It was using a 200watt power mike and a 400 watt linear amp. CBer's call it the black box. Very loud, very clear, very illegal.    Roland's hiding his linears at his mother-in-law's house tonight. My landlord's been running a smaller linear that he just hid in his trunk. The guy in the jewelry store is running a big kicker too, and Roland's gonna advise him to lay low too.    Why?    We just got the scoop this morning. The phone company went to the FCC with it, cause none of the data-changing comes under their jurisdiction since it came over the airwaves. Not on the line directly. So, this morning, New England telephone showed up at our apartment complex excorting some phedlooking dude who really wasnt in a good mood at all.    See we're the communications type people. And we all tend to have our wares hidden hours before they show up. He was dissappointed cause the combed the whole complex and caught absolutely nothing.    Nada.    So, he left without a criminal. And all the linears are back up. I lost a day of work. Sat around with the computer system down until 5:30.    Moral of the story? Sorry. No moral. Just tellin ya what happened. The data got changed, and it wasnt even hackers. But now that you know that you can do that, it very well could be, huh?    If you want a good CB, you can get one at Radio Shack. The Linear can be bought there too; but you cant talk over the purpose. Just buy it and hook it up. Drive near the computer, and key the mike. That's it. Hard drive scrambled. Only drawback is you cant leave any special trademark. Not yet anyways. Kinda neat, huh?    Oh well. You heard it here.     ************************* **     *    p  a  p             *     *   /  /  /               *     *                         *     *       a prime anarchist *     *              production *     *                         *     ************************* ** sponsored by infomaniack bbs (401)596-8338
