Access through the TYMNET network into the CompuServe Service incurs a communications surcharge.  The rates can be found on Page CIS-4.  TYMNET is a communication network provided by TYMNET Inc.  and is available by a local phone call from many locations within the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada (through DataPac).
 1.  DIAL THE TYMNET NETWORK PHONE NUMBER
 (Surcharges will apply.) Listen for the continuous, high-pitched tone. Redial if you do not hear this tone.
 2.  CONNECT COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT WITH TELEPHONE AND TERMINAL/ MICROCOMPUTER
 If using an acoustic coupler, properly position the telephone handset in the coupler.  If using a modem, connect according to your modem's instructions. If using a microcomputer, connect your communications equipment and execute the terminal emulator program.
 3.  ENTER TERMINAL IDENTIFIER
 TYMNET will cause the prompt PLEASE TYPE YOUR TERMINAL IDENTIFIER to display on your screen.  If you are logging on at any other speed than 300 baud, this message will be garbled.  Type in the letter A. DO NOT follow your entry by pressing the <ENTER> key.  For example:
PLEASE TYPE YOUR TERMINAL ID:  A
 4.  ENTER USER NAME
 TYMNET will next prompt you with PLEASE LOG IN.  Enter one of the following user names:
 CIS02,CIS03,CIS04,CPS01
followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. If you make a mistake entering the user name, press the ESCAPE key and reenter the
user name.  An example of typing in the daytime host name is as follows:
PLEASE LOG IN: CPS01  <ENTER>
Note:  If you are using a half duplex terminal, enter a ^H (by pressing down and holding the CONTROL key while simultaneously pressing the H key), and then type in the user name.
 5.  ENTER USER ID NUMBER
 When you receive the USER ID prompt, respond by typing in your User ID number and pressing the <ENTER> key.  For example:
 User ID: 76003,5  <ENTER>
 6.  ENTER YOUR PASSWORD
 You will be prompted for your
password.  Type it in exactly or you will receive an error message and be asked to reenter. Press the <ENTER> key after typing in your password.  For example:

security feature for your protection.   Telenet Network  When Telenet is used to access the CompuServe Service, an additional communications surcharge is incurred.  The rates can be found on page CIS-4.  Telenet is a communications network provided by GTE Telenet and is available from various locations within the contiguous United States and Canada (through DataPac).
 1.  DIAL THE TELENET NETWORK PHONE NUMBER
 (Surcharges will apply.) Listen for the continuous, high-pitched tone. Redial if you do not hear this tone.
 2.  CONNECT COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT WITH TELEPHONE AND TERMINAL/MICROCOMPUTER
 If using an acoustic coupler, properly position the telephone handset in the coupler.  If using a modem, connect according to your modem's instructions. If using a microcomputer, connect your communications equipment and execute the terminal emulator program.
 3.  PRESS THE <ENTER> KEY TWICE
 Telenet will announce itself and will display the terminal port address. Note:  If you are logging on at half duplex, press the <ENTER> key, then the semicolon key (;) and then the <ENTER> key again.
 4.  ENTER TERMINAL MODEL
 Telenet will cause the prompt TERMINAL = to be displayed on
your terminal.  Type in the response D1 followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. For example:
 TERMINAL = D1  <ENTER>
 5.  ENTER NETWORK ADDRESS
 Telenet will next prompt you with the @ symbol.  Type in one of the following codes and press the <ENTER> key.

 6.  ENTER USER ID NUMBER
 When you receive the USER ID prompt, respond by typing in your User ID number and pressing
the <ENTER> key.  For example:

 1.  DIAL THE DATAPAC NETWORK PHONE NUMBER
 (Surcharges will apply.) Listen for the continuous, high-pitched tone. Redial if you do not hear this tone.
 2.  CONNECT COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT WITH TELEPHONE AND
TERMINAL/MICROCOMPUTER
 If using an acoustic coupler, properly position the telephone handset in the coupler.  If using a modem, connect according to your modem's instructions. If using a microcomputer, connect your communications equipment and execute the terminal emulator program.
 3.  ENTER SERVICE REQUEST SIGNAL
 Enter the appropriate service request signal so DataPac will know what baud rate you are using.  You do this by entering one period (.) for 300 baud or two periods (..) for 1200 baud followed by pressing the <ENTER> key.  These periods will NOT print out as you enter them.
DataPac will display a message on your screen similar to --DataPac:  9999 9999 -- where the numbers indicate the port address.  DataPac now awaits your next entry.
 4.  ENTER CALL REQUEST
 Indicate that you want to connect into TYMNET or Telenet once your connection reaches the
United States (where the CompuServe Service is located). Enter one of the following request codes and press the <ENTER> key.  The code will NOT print out as you enter it.

 5.  RESPOND TO NEXT PROMPT
 If DataPac prompts you with USER NAME, respond by entering one of the following user names
followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. For example:     CIS02, CIS03, CIS04, CPS01 For example, to log in during the daytime hours you type in:  PLEASE LOG IN: CPS01  <ENTER> Note: If you are using a half duplex terminal, enter a ^H (by pressing down and holding the CONTROL key while simultaneously pressing the H key) - then type the user name.
 If you did not receive USER NAME, you will recieve the USER ID prompt. Proceed to the next step.
 6.  ENTER USER ID NUMBER
 When you receive the User ID prompt, respond by typing in your User ID number and pressing the <ENTER> key.  For example:

 7.  ENTER YOUR PASSWORD
 You will be prompted for your password.  Type it in exactly or you will receive an error message and be asked to reenter. Press the <ENTER> key after typing in your password.  For example:

This is a security feature for your protection.        DATAPAC GATEWAY The log on procedure for DataPac gateway: 1.  Dial the local DataPac    access number;  connect the    telephone to the modem. 2.  An entry must be made to    allow the DataPac network to    detect the speed and parity
  of the incoming terminal.    That entry is called a    service request signal.
   For 110 baud terminals,    enter...<cr>    (period,period,period,    carriage return)
   For 300 baud terminals,    enter .<cr>    (period, carriage return)
   For 1200 baud terminals,    enter ..<cr>    (period,period carriage    return)
3.  DataPac responds by    displaying the DataPac    herald, which includes the    DataPac dial port address.    It then waits for you to    enter the next line.
   If there are problems with    the above, call Canada Bell.

4.  The user now enters the call    request command.  This tells    the DataPac network which
   host on the network the use    will be accessing.  The user    enters our gateway address    in the following format:
            P 29400138
   Please note:  This will NOT    echo on the terminal.
5.  DataPac responds with the    message:
   DATAPAC:  call connected
6.  CompuServe then prompts for    HOST NAME, and the login    proceeds as usual.  When you are ready to log off the CompuServe Service, enter the word BYE or OFF at any prompt and disconnect/hang up the telephone from your communications equipment. Failure to enter BYE or OFF may result in your connection with the Service being maintained (and billed to you) for a period of time, normally no longer than 20 minutes, until the Service
