       Gnome 3
       ~~~~~~~
I have one computer which is online all the time and I use it via
TeamViewer to do various tasks which either need to run overnight or
need to run during day, when I'm at work. I mentioned this machine
in some previous post, it's nothing modern - just an old Pentium 4
(well, at 3GHz) based PC with 2.25GB of RAM, 320GB HDD and Linux.
I wouldn't run such computer 24/7 at home as it probably consumes
around 100W when idle, because the motherboard has no CPU power
management. But as the machine was made from spare parts and I don't
pay for the electricity, I didn't bother to do anything with it yet.
As I had something to do in the city the PC resides last weekend,
I wanted to reinstall it and when in the process to switch from
CentOS to Slackware. I tried to make both 32-bit and 64-bit version
run with no success (kernel panicked randomly during the boot),
I decided to upgrade CentOS to current version and get used to the
fact, that I still have one computer with systemd. Unfortunately
I had no time to replace the default desktop, which is Gnome 3.
I have to say, this desktop environment horrible. Resource-hungry,
slow, un-configurable and with some really annoying "features" like
curtain+lock screen, sliding notification  area or Activities
Overview. Look of the GUI and even named features seem to be created
to mimic those parts of new Mac OS X versions I hate most.
Some people say, that they have no time to configure their desktops,
the just want to install it and work. I can't imagine I can ever work
in this nightmare. And as customization seems to require plug-ins or
JavaScript programming, I will remove Gnome 3 and replace it with
something else immediately when I'm next to the computer.
