I don't usually make New Year's resolutions, because there is no
better way how not to do something, than making it a New Year's
resolution. But there is some computer-related stuff I would
like to do in 2015, so I made this short to-do list:
1. Complete the PC I mentioned in December to working stage, install
all drives available (floppy drives, JAZ, ZIP, tape) and make
backup of all media in my collection, that are worth it.
2. Reinstall both operating systems on PowerMac G5. I have to
reinstall OS X, because something is broken beyond repair and
iPhoto is destroying every edited photo. And I have to reinstall
Linux, because Debian it has systemd. PowerPC virtualization
under Linux would be fun too.
3. While experimenting with operating systems on PowerPC, resize
OS X partition on my PowerBook G4 and put OpenBSD in the free
space. It works well on this machine and is great OS.
4. Connect Apple Keyboard II to PowerMac G5. I simply love this
keyboard and from what I have seen around the web, it should be
possible.
5. After two years finally make my SGI Indigo2 work. I have to buy
cable for connecting it to ordinary VGA display and I don't
have keyboard and mouse as well. After getting these, I shall
see whether it works and boots.
6 Finish at least one utility on ZX Spectrum and release it. In 2014
I wrote NMEA protocol parser, but never connected a real GPS
hardware. And there is other unfinished stuff, I even have some
code that hasn't been touched since 2005.
7. Write a gopher client. Everybody is writing own gopher servers,
we even have more active server projects, than actively
maintained gopher holes. Now it's time for a client - for which
platform is to be decided.
Seven points on the list, twelve months, three hundred sixty five
days. I hope I will finish at least half of this list, because
otherwise it will be just another New Year's resolution. And I don't
do these.
