| PLIP stands for Parallel Line Internet Protocol. A common problem with | |
| ancient computers is the fact that they were rarely fitted with an Ethernet | |
| adapter, and it wasn't necessarily easy to add one (esp. if considering | |
| portable computers). However, most of these machines had a parallel port, | |
| primarily designed to hook a printer. | |
| The PLIP protocol is a work-around networking solution that allows a machine | |
| to use its parallel port as a networking device. This, of course, require | |
| said parallel port to be connected to some kind of PLIP server, or another | |
| computer running PLIP. | |
