OpenShot creator Jonathan Thomas released OpenShot 3.4 today as a major
update to this open-source, cross-platform, and free video editing
software for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems.
Coming a year after the previous version, OpenShot 3.3, the OpenShot
3.4 release looks to be the largest update ever done, with new features
like an experimental timeline, interactive cropping in the video
preview, as well as new effects including Sharpen, Color Map (LUT),
Spherical Projection, Lens Flare, and Outline.
OpenShot 3.4 also introduces a Timing toggle button that lets you
re-time your videos by dragging clip edges (similar to trimming),
draggable keyframes on the timeline, new Repeat, Loop, and Ping-Pong
options to the Time context menu, and support for pasting files from
the operating system clipboard into Project Files.
There are many improvements in this release as well, like snapping
improvements, multi-selection editing improvements, Final Cut Pro XML
(v4/v5 XMEML) improvements, EDL import/export improvements, timecode
alignment updated to match common standards, and overall performance
improvements.

Last but not least, OpenShot 3.4 enables animated GIF import via
FFmpeg, improves H.265 playback on Apple devices, strengthens
consistency between frame counts and durations, enables duration
strategy modes in FFmpegReader, fixes audio direction for
reversed/time-curved clips, and fixes undo/redo reliability.
There are also improvements to the AppImage bundle for Linux systems to
work better on newer distros and a new Benchmark tool in libopenshot
for easier performance testing and version comparisons. Of course,
there are numerous other smaller changes and bug fixes, so check out
the announcement page for more details.
Meanwhile, you can download OpenShot 3.4 from the official website as a
universal AppImage binary that you can run on virtually any Linux
distro without installing anything on your PC. You can also install
OpenShot 3.4 as a Flatpak app from Flathub or from your distro’s
software repositories.
