SAN ANTONIO GETS MORE LAME
(Posted 2010-03-15 14:36:55 by Ray Lopez)
Next week, Capital Metro in Austin, TX will begin service on their new
light rail system. The trains will run north to south, from Leander, past
UT and then right into downtown Austin. A few years back they introduced a
new network of toll roads, all of which has done much to increase traffic
flow in Austin and helped the city remain as one of the most livable cities
in the US.
Meanwhile, just an hour south of Austin, lies Lames-ville, AKA San Antonio.
While the visionaries in Austin have been moving forward on their transit
plans, we have a huge group of troglodytes in San Antonio fighting light
rail and toll roads tooth and nail. Thanks to these pinheads, metro
transit in the San Antonio area (with over 1.2 million people) remains
barely usable for all but the poorest citizens.
So it is business as usual in San Antonio, while Austin continues to enjoy
long-term economic and social benefits from far-sighted, progressive
planning.
San Antonio is in fact a beautiful city filled with good people. Adding
light rail, toll roads, more parks, and a reliable broadband internet
infrastructure would do much to secure San Antonio's economic future and
attractiveness.
