Zapped tar tapes
A simple six-line fix to tar helps a lot in recovering from errors.
I've posted the fix to net.sources. It allows retries after a
"directory checksum error". It doesn't deal with hard read-errors
on the tape, but an extension to cover that problem should be
straightforward.
