Full Duplex Modems and Uucp
While re-establishing uucp contact with chico recently, I had my eye
on the indicator LED's on the modem, and noticed that the use of the
"Full Duplex" aspect seems lacking.  Rather than have the two systems
transfer files simultaneously in BOTH directions and use piggybacking to carry
acknowledgements, that is, acknowledgement for message #5 from site A to
site B might be carried (piggyback) in message #7 from site B to site A.

This is probably fairly tough, given uucp's design.  Although there are
hooks for a new protocol, they are too low-level for this sort of change.

Has anybody done the work needed to take full advantage of the full-duplex
modems most people use?  It seems a shame to waste all that bandwidth....
perhaps there are good reasons for not doing this?
