record clubs
There is no catch with the record clubs.  When you average the money
you have to spend to meet the agreement over the number of records
you get, it's pretty reasonable.  The big drawback is the poor selection.

Back in my black past my roomies and I subcribed to every 'get 10 free'
record offer we could lay our hands on.  Using aliases, we ended up with
hundreds of 'free' records and tapes.  That's part of the overhead that
drives up the prices of record clubs.  Ironically, I have since reformed
and rejoined our favorite target (columbia) legit like.  After three years
of routinely returning the card marked NO SELECTION, they just stopped
sending me cards.  Of all the nerve.

But I find that the reel to reel selection is better than most stores.

Also, if 'The Record Club of America' is still around, they were the
most legit.  You just sent them 5 bucks up front, no obligation.
