Want the inside scoop?  Well, I have worked the last two summers
at EMD and have a few friends there as a result.  The truth is
that the plant has a capacity of four locomotives a day and is
currently making one or less.  In fact, their main source of
revenue right now are spare parts for existing locomotives.

Also, they are getting KILLED in the business because their fuel
economy is terrible with respect to GE.  I will hold my tongue on
other problems EMD may or may not have....

By the way, I talked to a friend on the GM General Staff, he says
that they would be crazy to close down EMD because it is
currently (e.g. last 6 months) the only profitable division in
GM.  Finally, people having been talking about EMD closing down
for the last two years at least.
