Re: More SI experiences
We have 10 SI 9400 controllers (5 pairs) running 9766s and find that
they work well once the initial problems are solved.  So far the initial
problems have been:
1) Installation.  We're used to a minimum of 16 hour service coverage on
our systems with response within 2-4 hours and "no-going-home-until-it's-
fixed".  The Si crew seems to work on a 8-hour workday that includes travel
time from Pluto or Neptune...
2) Variety.  We have five pairs of controllers that represent five different
versions of the interface.  Some of the controllers arrived with mixed
versions; e.g. half the boards from one version and half from another.
Needless to say, the combination didn't work and it took quite a few
round-trips to Pluto to figure that much out and to try to arrange shipment
of some matching boards from Aldebarran III...
3) Cabling.  The stock cables (from controller to drives) are too short for
us, but even if they weren't we would replace them because the standard
installation procedure seems to include tying sheepshanks, turk's heads,
carrick bends, and monkey's fist knots in them.
