my mamma told me about dec tape drives
I just had a curious encounter with our tape drive. It is a te16 on an
11/780.  I (somehow) managed to get the tape behind the upper tape
guide roller. There are two of these rollers, one on each side of the
head, they each have a little sticker on them saying "do not remove"
(presumably this means the sticker and not the roller?). Anyhow, when I
tried to write on the tape the reels spun a bit and then stopped and
the process that was writing was wedged and the system had to be
rebooted to unhang it. I tried to write on the tape twice (and rebooted
each time) before I noticed my creative threading.

strange.
