netnews clogging up the uucp directory
When for one reason or another (e.g. dead ACUs, dearth of dialups,
or machine downtime) some system becomes inaccessible for more than
a day, the uucp directory of the system forwarding netnews to it
becomes hopelessly clogged with stuff; last week, eagle had over
1024 files in /usr/spool/uucp (/bin/ls wouldn't even list them all).
This, of course, is not a way to make friends with the system
administrators.

Doing a little thinking, I came up with 2 ways to help the situation:
(1) Have the netnews placed in some sort of archive, and then send out
this one file once or twice a day.
(2) Have uucp use a different spool directory for each system it
communicates with.

Neither of these can be done immediately, so far as I can see; one
quick solution which has been implemented is to delete the offending system
from the forwarding system's sys file (this works amazingly well...).
Does anyone have any other brilliant ideas?
