I wouldn't go so far to say that the gamma interpretation of the -a
option is a misfeature, it's just different.  It confused the heck
out of me at first, so it's worth warning people used to previous
versions that they should also use -x.  However, I find that almost
all the time I use -a I leave off the date.  In this case, with gamma
you really don't need -a at all, just use -x instead.  If there is to
be valid criticism of this, it should not be on the grounds of "it
confused me because it's different".  Preferably it should be from
someone who never used netnews before.
