Article Cancellation (reprise)
I was informed that this message disappeared into a net 'abyss'
after one site and never got any farther .... so once again:
Most netnews administrators must all share the frustration of the
/usr/spool/news directory getting too large to be manageable, of
being unable to access all the news due to "netnews: too many articles".
Hopefully the new netnews will have expiration dates on articles.
But until it is available, the only way to cut back on the weed-like
growth of articles is to cancel them one at a time, a tedious task.
I have written a program "newspurge" which automatically cancels
articles older than a given date (default 20 days), which can be run
by cron.  If anyone would like a copy, let me know.
