net.datacomm

Response has been very favorable to the creation of a net.datacomm news group.
The only concern expressed is whether there is already a group sufficient
to cover this interest without creating a new group.

The only existing group which seems appropriate is the arpanet 'fa.telecom'
group.  My concern here is twofold.  First, it may subject readers of that
group to a lot of information which is not of interest to them.  Second, that
group is 'digested', which seems to somewhat impair the speed of the information
flow.  That is, the information tends to be less conversational, which may or
may not be viewed as an advantage.

The only other general comment was that the name 'datacomm' only leaves one
significant character for subgroups.  Perhaps 'datacom' would be a better
name.

Rather than continuing this discussion of a new group ad-nauseum, i propose
that unless we hear STRONG objections in this forum within the next day or
so, the new news group net.datacom (only one m) be formed.
