a funny glitch
Andy Tannenbaum and I just tracked down a news problem which was
really weird.  Inews was core dumping. Adb said it was dumping
in history, in a place where it couldn't be core dumping.  (fgets
would have had to return non-null but with no newline on the end
of the buffer.)

Turns out his history file (from a previous version of netnews) had
a bunch of null characters in it.  A line beginning with a null would
cause fgets to return as described above.

So if it happens to you (please send me mail - I'd like to know if
nulls in history files is widespread) the fix is to vi your history
file and write it back.  That will strip out the nulls.  Or just
       cp /dev/null /usr/lib/news/history
