long newsgroup names
Here's another reason to go to extended newsgroup names.  In my
newsrc, I have entries for net.jokes.lime and net.jokes.limerick.  I
guess the full name goes in there, as long as it fits in 13
characters.  Note I didn't say 14.  the .files must start with a dot,
so netnews better not think it is going to live with two groups with a
difference only in character #14 (A netnews hacker would know better
than I).  This trunctated newsgroup stuff just gets more ridiculous the
more I think about it.   We did it to C variable names, let's do it to
netnews newsgroup names.  I think we could live with names of great
length.as.long.as.no.single.part.of.the.name.is.greater.than.14
characters, using directory names for parts.
