Prairie Home Companion
Although Lake Woebegone ("where all the women are strong, the men are
good-looking and the children above average"), Powder Milk Biscuits
("in the brown bag with the dark stains that indicate freshness"), etc.
may be fictitious the "characters" are certainly real.  Garrison Keillor,
the host, blends shy sophistication with shy common-sense in wonderful
monologues; The Butch Thompson Trio (featuring Butch Thompson who is almost
fatally shy and an incredible piano player who s[pecializes in stride piano
styles) plays tunes from James P. Johnston through Duke Ellington; and so on.
I'm sure that anyone who has listened to it agrees that it's a fantastic
radio show.
It's on WNYC in the New York City area, Saturday evenings from 6pm - 8pm.
Also of interest is "Cowboy Joe's Radio Ranch" on WKCR Sunday afternoons
(2PM?) which features "cowboy" music including much Western Swing.
