Subject: Time Bandits...

Is a splendid, visually spectacular fantasy film.  Go expecting either
a Monty Python picture or a children's film (esp. a Disney-style film) and
you are sure to wonder what the hell's going on.
 What's good about it:
 1) The whole story is seen through the eyes of the child who is the hero.
This idea totally pervades the whole film, from the appearance of things
in his life in the story, through the astonishing sense of wonder, right
down to the camera angles.
 2) It was done with a wonderful imagination and a very low budget.  It
LOOKS as spectacular and rich as any film I have ever seen. I
have a newfound respect for Terry Gilliam that I never could have imagined
based on his Monty Python animations.
 3) It has some very serious, thought-provoking themes.
 4) The dwarves are marvelous comedians.
 5) It is a work of high smart-assedness.

A caveat: I have found that peoples' reactions to this movie are directly
related to how 'childish' they are, in the positive sense of somebody who
takes fun and playfullness to be very valuable things.  If you feel that
the child in you is still alive, by all means, see Time Bandits.  They
made it for you.
